I made these photographs for a family on their last days in Jakarta. The brief was simple and beautiful: document an evening in the neighbourhood; record life just as it is for two little ones in the only home they've ever known. Give a record of these golden years, of this place when the sun slants low and air turns tender and the neighbours venture out into the street. We documented life in South Jakarta, just as it is: kids playing, blowing bubbles, the tempeh man, the neighbourhood goats, picking fruit, gold fish in a bag, and the noodle soup with meatballs from a handcart. It was simple and easy, tender and beautiful in it's very ordinariness. And this is exactly the work I love to do.
